How Do Toyota Safety Features Work?

December 30th, 2020 by

Comprehensive and advanced safety features are things we all look for when shopping for a new car. Driving itself is inherently dangerous, but safety technology can help reduce danger and save lives in the event of an accident. Many automotive brands in the industry have created their own variety of safety tech for their consumers to take advantage of and Toyota’s is hailed as one of the most technologically advanced. If you’ve ever heard us drop the name “Toyota Safety Sense,” you know what we’re talking about. You might be familiar with some of the features, but how exactly do they work? Toyota of North Charlotte is here to break it down for you.

Advanced Safety Features Made Simple

Toyota Safety Sense is one of the most advanced variety of North Charlotte safety features out there. This suite is standard on many new Toyota vehicles and includes many items you’d think would be reserved for luxury cars. If you’re wondering how they work, we’ve got you covered.

Pre-Collision System w/ Pedestrian Detection

The Pre-Collision safety feature included in Toyota Safety Sense is used to avoid or mitigate a potential impact with another vehicle or pedestrian. There an optional Bicyclist Detection software that can detect cyclists during daylight situations. This system uses an exterior camera and radar tool to actively sense and process environmental objects. The driver is then warned via sounds and haptic feedback from the North Charlotte Toyota car. The system can also brake automatically if the driver doesn’t react quickly enough.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

Cruise control is a useful tool for highway travel but it still requires frequent adjustment if you’re driving in a congested spot. This safety feature makes use of external cameras and radar to maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and the one in front of you regardless of travel speed. Essentially it will automatically adjust your speed and distance for cruising.

Lane Departure Alert w/ Steering Assist

Lane Departure Alert works by sensing white or yellow lane indicators and warning the driver if they’re inadvertently drifting or changing lanes unintentionally. The system can also make small driving corrections if the driver of the North Charlotte Toyota car doesn’t react quickly. Road Edge Detection is also available to detect lane barriers other than yellow or white markings like curbs, medians, grass, and more.

Automatic High Beams

To help drivers see more clearly at night but with consideration to other drivers, Automatic High Beams go to work. Using sensors located in the headlights, this safety feature detects headlights from other vehicles approaching to switch between low and high beam lighting.

Road Sign Assist

New to the Toyota Safety Sense suite of features, Road Sign Assist helps North Charlotte drivers by clearly displaying proximate road signs. The safety feature uses an intelligent camera and then relays the sign type to the information display on your vehicle’s dashboard.
