Don’t make these common car maintenance mistakes this summer
Summer weather can really take a toll on your car. High temps and unforgiving sun can do damage if you don’t take steps to protect your ride, which is why it’s so important to stay on top of your car care throughout the season. Toyota of N Charlotte is here to talk about some of the most common car maintenance mistakes we see drivers make during the summer and why they’re so important to avoid. Read on!
Which summer car care mistakes are most common?
Mistake #1: Skipping oil changes.
Oil is absolutely essential to ensuring that your ride makes it through the summer without overheating (or your engine melting and seizing up). It keeps everything in the engine cool and lubricated, so when you skip oil changes you’re doing your ride a real disservice. This Charlotte auto service ensures that you always have a tank of clean oil, and when your oil gets too dirty or the level gets too low, you’re sure to suffer the consequences.
Mistake #2: Not taking care of tires.
The summer is also tough on your car’s tires! The pavement is hot and when you combine that with the friction from the tires turning and the fact that hot weather causes the air inside your tires to expand, you’re asking for a blowout or flat. You should stay on top of Charlotte car maintenance tasks like tire inspections, checking the PSI, and getting regular tire rotations so all four tires wear evenly and last longer.
Mistake #3: Neglecting to offer protection from the sun.
The sun can do a number on your car both inside and out. Offer it some protection – you should apply wax on a regular basis to protect the paint, and try to park in the shade whenever possible. Additionally, protect the interior of your ride by tinting your windows and using a sunshade to shield the dash from harsh UV rays that can cause cracking, fading, and other damage.
Mistake #4: Not watching the cooling system.
Your cooling system is another integral part of keeping your car at the right temperature all summer long. It’s essential to have our car maintenance techs inspect the system on a regular basis, and you should ensure you always have a full tank of coolant so your car can do its job properly.

Mistake #5: Ignoring bad wiper blades.
Summer means lots of sun, but it ALSO means rain! You need your wiper blades to be in top condition all season long, which means you should replace them as needed. Signs they’re due to be replaced include smearing water around, making squealing or chittering noises when in use, or just looking physically damaged on the rubber part. The good news? Replacing them is easy and cheap, especially at our Charlotte Toyota parts store.
