Road Rage Got You Flustered?

December 15th, 2021 by

If you drive daily, then you’ve probably encountered someone having road rage, or experienced the inner rage yourself. However, this can be very dangerous and somewhat unpredictable. According to a AAA survey, over 80% of drivers have shown road rage while driving over the last year. At Toyota of N Charlotte, we understand that driving can be extremely annoying if someone cuts you off unexpectedly. But, when someone’s raging, it hits a whole new level that’s not good for anybody involved.

Road Rage Explained.

So, what exactly is road rage? Well, it’s basically whenever a driver is super angry (and acting aggressive or passive-aggressive), and takes it out on other drivers on the road by tailgating, weaving in and out, cutting people off, and brake checking. Just beware of those drivers and know that it isn’t anything personal.

Someone having a bad day can cause road rage, but the most common cause are traffic, delays, and running late. Also, another aspect that the N Charlotte Toyota drivers forget is that the anonymity of driving aggressively makes them feel like they won’t see that person ever again. But, that’s not necessarily always the case. Regardless of why they’re having road rage, it can be super dangerous and cause a car accident (and maybe multiple cars). Toyota of N Charlotte recommends looking out for the following behaviors.

  • Speeding
  • Cutting cars off
  • Tailgating
  • Swerving or weaving in and out of lanes
  • Preventing cars from chasing lanes or turning (aka speeding up to prevent this)
  • Honking, screaming and making inappropriate hand gestures
  • Getting out of their car and confronting the other driver
  • Hitting another car on purpose

Charlotte Toyota Safe Driving Tips if This Happens to You.

  • First things first, do not engage with this angry driver. This is most likely the response they want. Just try your best to stay calm, and do not brake check them, yell, make eye contact, or give them a rude hand gesture back. This takes your attention off the road, but always fuels the fire and makes matters worse. Just continue to practice your Charlotte Toyota safe driving tips.
  • Another Charlotte Toyota safety tip is to keep your eyes peeled. Pay extra attention when you have someone tailgating you. You want to ensure that they’re not following you home or getting out of their car when you come to a complete stop.
  • Toyota of N Charlotte also recommends getting far away as you possibly can. If you notice someone driving recklessly, then try to get out of their way to avoid a car accident.
  • Don’t stop if someone is having road rage. Even if the other driver indicates that they want you to stop, you should avoid this at all costs.
