Bidding Farewell to a Toyota Legend

Perhaps the most original Toyota models out there, the Land Cruiser has seen it all. For generations this model has defined what it means to be a North Charlotte Toyota SUV and has done more than most cars could dream of. Just recently we were expecting the Land Cruiser to cross into the next generation, the 300-Series, so this news come very heavy handed. We almost had a Cruiser with less frills, a lower price point, and more off-roading capability at the dealership. But sadly that doesn’t look to be in the cards for us at Toyota of North Charlotte.

According to a report from Motor Authority, an anonymous dealership employee reported that North Charlotte Toyota Land Cruiser would not be returning for the next model year after 2021. Toyota recently unveiled new features for the current generation Land Cruiser and continued the Heritage Edition model for 2021.

This being mainly rumor based news, we recommend you take it with a grain of salt. After all, the Toyota Land Cruiser is one of Toyota’s most original and historic nameplates. It still enjoys quite a large following and the rumors of a 300-Series are still valid. Toyota has not confirmed the end or the continuation of the next generation Toyota Land Cruiser. While we can argue for its continuation, we can’t ignore the elephant in the room and that’s the inaccessible price point of the Toyota Land Cruiser. While laden with advanced features and luxurious options, most drivers are looking for something to off-road with, something true to the nature of the Land Cruiser. For the current price point, most drivers would rather purchase a Lexus or other luxury brand vehicle and that’s resulted in poor sales figures for the Cruiser. At the end of the day, it’s hard to say what will happen with the North Charlotte Toyota Land Cruiser.

What’s Next for the Toyota Land Cruiser?

The current rumored report claims that the Land Cruiser will end its run in the North American market. But, that doesn’t mean the model will end its life internationally where its far more popular. The likely conclusion we can draw is that the Cruiser will begin a new generation, the 300-Series internationally. One interesting thing to point out is that the Lexus LX, the Land Cruiser equivalent in Lexus, will not cease production in North America. One thing’s for sure, you should enjoy the Toyota Land Cruiser while you can!
