Five spring break road trips to plan now
Trip #1: Texas Hill Country
Head west to Texas for spring break… but not the Gulf Coast beaches. Instead, head to San Antonio as your starting point. You can explore the River Walk and see the historic Alamo before heading North to Austin. Here you can get your fill of up-and-coming music, eat unbelievable BBQ, and explore the history of the city before hitting the highway again. From there head north again to Texas Hill Country, where rolling fields of bluebells, green grass, and wildflowers will greet you. Be sure to make a pit stop in Fredericksburg, which is known for its wineries.

Trip #2: Grand Canyon to Arches
Beaches not your thing? We get it, and that’s why we recommend another Southwest road trip for your spring break. You’ll start at the Grand Canyon in Arizona – be sure to hit the North Rim, where it’s usually less crowded and a lot quieter. From there you’ll head north to southeastern Utah. If you plan it right, you can visit the incredible red rocks of Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Goblin, and Moab in one go. It’s a hiker’s dream trip, and if you’re into mountain biking and off-roading you’ll be in heaven.

Trip #3: Columbia River Scenic Highway in Oregon
Need some nature in your life? Driving the Columbia River Scenic Highway for spring break is definitely the way to make it happen. You can start in Portland, Oregon, and check out the city before heading to Troutland to begin your road trip. The journey follows the Columbia River Gorge for almost 75 miles to The Dalles. Leave plenty of time for pit stops – the route is loaded with scenic waterfalls and hiking trails, not to mention once-in-a-lifetime photo ops.

Trip #4: Joshua Tree National Park, California
Spend some time recharging in the desert this spring break with a road trip through Joshua Tree National Park. The road that winds through it is 70 miles, but you’ll want to stop… and often. You can hike, rock climb, explore cactus gardens, take photos with the famed Joshua Trees, and even camp in the park. Pop into the town of Joshua Tree for a night or two to explore, and you can even hit Palm Springs on your way back to civilization (not a bad place to stop).

Trip #5: Miami to Key West, Florida
If you really need a beach in your life to make a spring break road trip complete, then it’s a great idea to head south to Miami, Florida and make the trek down to Key West through the Florida Keys. You’ll feel like you’re on a tropical island but won’t need a passport to get there. The highway stretches across endless oversea bridges so you’re surrounding by bright blue water pretty much the entire time, and you can stop along the way to snorkel, swim, scuba dive, kayak, boat, fish, and more. (Or you can just lay on the beach and relax, just saying.) Once you hit Key West, check out all of the historical sights before dining on some of the best seafood you’ll have in your life.
