Prepping Your Car for Driving in Winter
Now that we’re getting into the colder season, it’s time to start thinking about how to prep your car for driving in winter. And, even though Toyota of N Charlotte only gets about four inches of snow a year, it’s always better to be overprepared than not at all. Also, if you end up traveling for Christmas or hit the slopes to go skiing, then you’ll want to know tips for driving in winter to navigate those snowy roads.
6 Tips for Driving in WinterÂ
Let’s get into those super helpful Charlotte Toyota driving in winter tips!
Tip #1 Replace Your WipersÂ
Before you head out on those snowy roads, you’ll want to be sure to replace your windshield wipers so that you don’t have to deal with them smearing, chattering, or skipping on your windshield. Toyota of N Charlotte recommends replacing these every 6-12 months. Also, be sure to use winter washer fluid (de-icer or an all-season formula). If you don’t have the correct fluid in your reservoir, then your windshield could freeze instead of clearing off the window.
Tip #2 Check Your Tires
Before you head out on the highway, be sure to check your tires and Charlotte Toyota tire pressure. Have at least 6/32 inches of tread so that you don’t hydroplane and are less likely to get into a car accident. Also, keep in mind that Charlotte Toyota car tires can lose 1 psi of pressure for every 10-degree temperature drop.
Tip #3 Check Car BatteryÂ
It’s true that car batteries deteriorate faster in hotter temperatures, but if you start your car in super cold temperatures, it can make your car battery die. colder weather reduces the cranking power and takes more work for the car. Be sure to get your car battery checked at Toyota of N Charlotte before heading out.
Tip #5 Extra Time to Clear Off CarÂ
Another great driving in winter tip is to take extra time to clear off your ride. Before heading out, be sure to use an ice scraper and snow brush to clear off the ice and snow that may have accumulated on your N Charlotte Toyota. And, don’t neglect your side windows and the hood of your car when driving in winter.
Tip #6 Emergency KitÂ
When you’re driving in winter, be sure to have an emergency kit, too! With those super cold temperatures, you’ll want to make sure you have a thick blanket non-perishable food, water, coat, snow boots, shovel, flashlight, map, portable charger, and an extra charging cord! That way you can stay prepared for anything that comes your way during those dark, winter nights.
