Toyota Electric Vehicles Can Access Tesla Superchargers
If you’re the proud owner of a Toyota electric vehicle, then we’ve got big news coming your way. Toyota and Lexus announced that they’re going to start using the North American charging standard (NACS), after reaching an agreement with Tesla! So, what does this mean exactly? Well, this means that some N Charlotte Toyota electric vehicles can use the 12,000 Tesla supercharger stations for fast and convenient charging.
Why are Toyota Electric Vehicles Partnering with Tesla?Â
This is HUGE news. Plus, this is increasing the number of charging stations that N Charlotte Toyota electric vehicles can use regularly. Not only that, you’ll be able to use the superchargers, which are super fast. Below are some details of the agreement that we know so far!
- Toyota and Lexus plan to start incorporating the NCAS ports into the new cars in 2025.
- Also, these N Charlotte Toyota electric vehicles will have a brand-new three-row, battery-electric Toyota SUV that’s supposed to come out between now and then )it’ll be assembled in Kentucky).
- Customers who own or lease certain Toyota electric vehicles with the Combined Charging System (CCS) will be offered an adapter to allow them to use the NACS charging system in 2025.
- As of 2023, there are more than 84,000 charging ports in America for Toyota electric vehicles. This includes level 2 and DC fast chargers.
- This will expand access to 12,000 and more charging stations through the Tesla supercharger network.
How Long Does it Take to Charge an Electric Car?Â
Basically, it all comes down to the question of how long it takes to charge an electric car. Check it out below:
There are three types of chargers you can choose from level one, level two, and level three (known as DC fast chargers).
- Level one chargers are the standard 230V chargers (similar to the outlets at your house). Level one chargers can be installed at your house to charge your Toyota electric vehicle. This is the slowest charger, and it can take days for you to get a full charge with a level one charger. Also, this is why this is the type of charger recommended for N Charlotte Toyota plug-in hybrids, or for a super short commute.
- Level two chargers are much more powerful and are 240V (try double as effective). You can have this Charlotte Toyota EV charging station at your home, but you’ll need to have it professionally installed by an electrician. If you use this charger, then your EV charging time only takes 4-10 hours to get a full charge. Also, you’ll tend to see a lot of these electric car charging stations around even though it takes a good amount of time.
- Level three chargers are the best chargers around. However, you’re not able to install these charging stations at home. You’ll have to venture out in public to use this type of charger. While EV charging time varies for this, you can expect it to reach a full charge within 20-60 minutes.
3 Tips for Charging Your Toyota Electric VehicleÂ
Below are some more tips:
- Download apps. There are literally dozens of apps that you can download on your smartphone to help you find charging stations for your EV.
- Check charging levels. N Charlotte Toyota electric vehicles like the bz4X make it super easy to see the charge levels on your dashboard.
- Enroll with the Clean Assist program with Toyota. When you charge your electric car, the Toyota app calculates how much electricity you’re using and the net emissions from the charging process. Next, Toyota will generate or buy an equivalent amount of Renewable Energy Certificates. This means that all of your charging activity is matched with zero-carbon electricity.
Additionally, if you have EV range anxiety, then we totally understand. But, with the apps out there and the addition of superchargers, it should put your mind at ease.
